Paul Edmondson is riding in our Hare and Hound on Sunday the 16th December. The three times World Enduro Champion will be accompanied by Jason Thomas who is one of Britain's promising young talents. This event offer riders a rare opportunity to ride with Paul Edmondson and watch the style of a rider who won the Weston Beach Race outright. Ricky Mair has also signed up with enduro regulars Derek Little, Paul Chatham, Allyn Scotland and Scott Maxwell.
The track builders have set a loop for the Motocross riders who do not want to race through the woods and their race is for 2 hours. This was done as there were many motocross riders who requested it. So far there has been a poor take up on this option and if it is to go ahead I need about another 20 entries.
This event is designed to be a fun day and new riders should also enjoy the set up.
I have also attached a short press release regarding Paul Edmondson, please give this event some coverage on your website. Thank you for your support.

2008 YMX Scottish Championship
From YMX Chairman Jim Smith
Following recent talk amongst riders/parents etc with regards to next year’s YMX Youth Championship, below is some information on the facts and the reasoning behind it, to quash the speculation which has been flying around.
As chairman, my aim has always been to try and improve things. This can not be achieved by standing still. I believe that we have a huge amount of youth talent in Scotland yet few are getting any further than Youth Scottish Championship level. We need to look at different ways of doing things in order to move forward. If, along the way we sometimes get things wrong we simply readjust and do things differently. We don’t go backwards. All around us our sport is developing and moving forward – I do not want to see Youth Motocross in Scotland still in the doldrums when everyone and everything else has moved forward.
At the YMX Committee meetings throughout the year, we have discussed at length a possible format for the 2008 championships. 2007 has been too many rounds and a big strain on both the dates and peoples pockets travelling to 9 rounds. A two day format was proposed, discussed at length, and agreed UNANIMOUSLY by those attending the meetings. (and been minuted that this is the case)
The proposed format:
Maximum six rounds, all at different tracks, each over two days.
Saturday will be youths only. Practice plus three blocks of races; or longer practice/qualifying plus two blocks of racing. (this has still to be confirmed)
Sunday will be Adult 125 Championship/adult support practice plus Block one first, then two further blocks of racing for everyone.
This equates to Youths getting either four or five races over the weekend, and keeps Adults to Sunday only (allowing for the fact that a lot of adults work Saturdays and tend to come on Sunday mornings rather than stay over Saturday night)
For the youths, the worst points scoring race from each round would be dropped. The last round of the championship would earn double points , provided you had attended all of the previous rounds. This will add some excitement to the final round.
Why 2 days?
- Travelling is one of the biggest expenses, so it was felt it was more worthwhile for people to travel if they were getting two days of racing rather than one.
- Numbers have been dropping – again it was felt we could attract more riders from the South and Ireland , as well as elsewhere in Scotland (eg Orkneys, Shetlands etc) if it was two days as it is then worth the journey. Our lads/lassies would then have better and more diverse competition, and it would raise our standard.
- Track familiarity. Racing would become better as the weekend went on as everyone would become more familiar with the track. How many of us as parents, lament that the kids are just getting warmed up by race three when it is time to go home? It reduces the advantage of local knowledge.
- Social aspect . The two fun weekends (currently GYMCC and SYMCC) plus the Leuchars national are the best supported events in the calendar. Why? It is a social event as well as racing. Two days at each different track gives all the clubs the opportunity to hold a ‘fun weekend’ and allows parents to relax somewhat rather than the mad dash to get the kids home before midnight .
We are only looking at a further 4 events which takes in a Saturday.
- Home time . The 2 day format would allow people to get home early on Sunday instead of the current 9pm onwards as it mostly is. This is offputting for people with very young children as they have school next day. Also it doesn’t make any allowance for any long stoppages.
- Raising the profile. If we want to be able to help our young riders to go onto bigger and better things in their sport we have to have a higher profile. Being Scottish Champions has to have more meaning than it currently does. This is OUR national Championship and we should all treat it as such instead of constantly running it down. A higher profile will attract more press coverage, more sponsors, and there fore there is more money in the pot to help the clubs and help our riders to develop.
- Cost We are looking at ways to ensure that the cost to do the championship does not escalate and through sponsorship, and more effective use of the tracks/club resources we feel that running over two days will give competitors better value for money (contrary to what has been said elsewhere!)
- Marshalling. This is an ever present bone of contention. If we can increase numbers and with this format, it is hoped that each rider will only need to marshall for one out of the two days. I feel that this is a positive step forward for our championship, and whilst I appreciate that there may be some people that find it an inconvenience due to their own circumstances, there seem to be many more people who see it as a good thing. After all, if our youngsters were involved in almost ANY other sport, it would take place on Saturdays. Football, Rugby , Tennis, swimming galas, even karting! etc are almost exclusively held on Saturdays.
Let us work together with a positive attitude to make this work, and I am happy to discuss further with anyone who has valid points to raise.

Caithnessmotox Clubs Ravenhill Track
Ravenshill is west of Thurso, approx. 2 miles from the Scrabster junction. The track is just over 1000 metres long if you include the 100 metre start straight, generally 7-8 metres wide, there is a couple of table tops (that will be made bigger & longer when we get more material) up & down hills and a step up (for the brave) as it leads into a downhill right turn !!!We just got permission from the landowner to allow us to make an access road and hard standing for the pit area.It is an SACU certified track and we run under SACU National Restricted permits. The track is open to club members for practice as follows:- Tuesday nights up to 8 o'clock for bikes up to 85cc Big Wheel class.Thursday nights up to 8 o'clock for 125cc Schoolboys & Adults.Sunday morning from 11am to 2pm for bikes up to 85cc Big Wheel class.Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm for 125cc Schoolboys & Adults. I feel that it is not bad for our (CMXC's) first attempt and we are certainly looking to develop it further. Our next race is the 2nd of Sept.and then the 16th Sept. with Signing in / Scrutineering 9am and all riders to provide a marshall. Maybe worth mentioning that any southern riders who are planning coming up this way for the annual Orkney beach race on the 9th Sept. that they are are more than welcome to come along and have a look around the track if they are in the area.
